Our Commitment to Sustainability at Whitworth Veterinary Practice
At Whitworth Veterinary Practice, we care deeply about not only the health of your pets but also the health of our planet. We strive to minimise our environmental impact while maintaining the highest standards of care and safety for both animals and our team.
Here’s how we’re working towards a more sustainable future—and how you can help:
What We Do to Protect the Environment:
Reuse, Recycle, Reduce: Wherever possible, we follow these principles without compromising the safety of animals or staff.
Energy Efficiency: We switch off lights and equipment when rooms are not in use to save energy.
Smart Appointment Scheduling: To reduce unnecessary visits, we try to schedule animals from the same household at the same time for vaccinations and combine medication check-ups with these visits whenever possible. We also encourage sending photos of surgical wounds when appropriate, so we can avoid extra trips to the clinic.
Preventative Care: We promote vaccinations, neutering, and other preventative treatments. Preventing illness helps reduce the environmental impact associated with treating diseases.
Medication Disposal: Please help us protect the environment by returning any unused medications to us. This ensures safe disposal and prevents harmful substances from entering water systems or landfill.
Solar Power: We are proud to have solar panels fitted to the practice thanks to a sustainability grant from East Suffolk Council and much of our energy use is now powered by solar.

Please return any unused, unwanted or expired medication to reception so we can dispose of these safely. How to return medications safely:
● Leave all medicines in their original containers. Do not mix different medications together.
● When returning needles and syringes they must be in the supplied sharps container and not mixed with any other medications.
● For privacy, remove any identifying labels or information
